Owners with muffler tips check in...

Sup guys,

I went to Pep Boys and I bought a 3.5" muffler tip, but thats besides the point. The problem is that the original muffler tip is basically sitting half and inch from the tip of the new tip, and it looks kinda funky. Did you guys cut a piece of the original muffler off to accomodate the new tip? Also, if you did, does the exhaust get louder now that it travels through a wider tip?

Thanks

Exactly as sunten said. Exhuast will not get louder. My friends Explorere did tho haha. Anyway, I attached the tip right on there and it looks fine. Is the tip not long enough?

Actually after looking at this pic I realized I should tuck my tip a little more. But I still have plenty of room.

Happy 420 everyone! LOL

The tip itself is actually pretty long, but I have to slide it real far so that the tip lines up with the bumper, I dont like it when it sticks out. I thought that 3.5" would be big but its actually not that big at all once on the car.

No it's not, my stock one is ugly, smaller, and not chrome.

That's without the tip, as you can see, no chrome tip.

Anybody done anything about the stock muffler hangers?

The entire muffler sags down a bit which leaves
a not-to-nice looking gap between the tip and rear bumper.

Cheap chrome tips won't look so good after a few months in the weather. I think you have to $-up and get a stainless one. I was wondering the same thing about having to cut the stock tailpipe though. If you put a bigger diameter tip on there you would still be able to see the smaller stock pipe underneath and it would look ricer.

I bought a stainless tip for 35 and yeah it does look a littly sketchy with the old tip sticking inside the new tip. When I get the time Im going to cut the old one, make it look official.

Also, does anyone know how to raise the muffler so the new tip touches the top of the bumper instead of hanging an inch or so down.

It depends on what diameter your tip is. Which one did you get? Do you have a link or something because I'm looking for a SS tip myself.

Get a monkey wrench and bend the hangers till you get the desire look. I have to do it on my HKS because it was touching the bumper.

anybody weld a tip on? I just spent $25 on a bolt on and it looks so ricer. I want to get a different one, cut the tail pipe, and have a buddy weld it on for me.

Its a slanted 3.5" tip from Pep Boys. I was going for a clean, agressive, not fart can look and this looks perfect. Not too big but not small either. Ill post a pic when I can.

When using the monkey wrench, you just squeeze the clamps until it raises the muffler to your liking?

You dont need to weld just measure how far back the new tip goes on the muffler when you like it and cut it a little ahead of that point. I highly doubt anyone will be able to look that far into the new tip to see the old one. No point in welding it, the look will be the same.

BTW, our cars look so similar that its scary lol.

I think if you cut off your stock tailpipe and weld a new tip on, it will sound a little louder.

Thats what I was thinking too. I dont want to commit to cutting it and then be left with a nice farty sound for the rest of the car's life. Does anyone have experience with this?

Also, how exactly do you use a monkey wrench to lift the muffler? Does it last?

devilz05, u got a pic of ur car?.... I'd like to see it. lol

But the reason I said that I wanted to weld it is because these bolt on tips look bad...or at least with mine. If you are approx 15 feet away and look at the side of the car at an angle, you can see a bolt holding the tip in place. For me, thats no good. It screams

However, if I move my muffler up, it might hide it. I'll have to play round with it...or might just say screw it and weld the damn thing on.

I cut off a few inches of the stock outlet. Its a cheap tip from Wal-Mart, the brand is Pilot. I used clamps on the hangers to raise the tip close the to bumper. It comes resonated, but it will rust out and it looks better without it anyhow. I have had 3. They still look nice and shiney to this day.

Yes I painted the muffler black.

The bolts on my tip are removable so you can always use the side two and remove the bottom one if you want that sleek look.

Does anyone know if the sound is any good with a welded tip, I really dont feel like driving around fit a fart can sound.
