Does a Faulty Tranny Affect the Idle?

I have been having high idle problems and noticed that my tranny now jerks really hard when shifting, sometimes hesitation occcurs. So I was wondering if the tranny is making my idle high or is it the high idle affecting the tranny?

I also checked my tranny fluid and it seems to be at the right level and still good (red). Does the TPS have to do with this? I found it unplugged a while back and plugged it back in with no better results.

You might have a vacuum leak or a stuck IACV valves. It's probably something related to the throttle body and by the sounds of it somebody has already mucked about trying to fix it.

Well, could it be my TPS? I found it unplugged not too long ago, do you think it's ruined?

Look, all the TPS is, is a wirewound potentiometer, same as old radios used to have. There isn't anything inside to 'ruin'. The TPS eventually goes bad because it always returns onto the same spot on the track when the throttle is closed, and the resistance wire gets worn through. You can run the motor without the TPS. It does affect idle.
Now, you should notice that the TPS has a small amount of adjustment available, it is a mounting slot rather than a mounting hole . . . take a look. Slacken the 2 screws just enough to move it in the slots and gently wiggle it forward and back. If the TPS is functional you will get a change in idle speed.

Before you do anything else clean the connectors to the MAF and TPS particularly.

But I don't think for a minute the TPS is the fault.

You have not given us any meaningful info. "High idle" - what do you mean by 'high'?
Clunking and banging in an auto tranny, esp. in overrun, is usually a bad TC.

What should I use to clean the connectors? The idle is wierd, it is off and on. Sometimes it idles at 1000 and then it randomly drops to 600. I don't know what's wrong, I don't want to adjust the idle b/c when it is not idling high, I would have a idle that would be too low.

Take the connector off, spray with carb cleaner, work the other part in and out for a while . . . in and out . . .
alternatively borrow a toothbrush from a
