9007 light issue
9007 light issue
I finished doing the 9007 mod. I used the Nokya plug n play harnesses and Piaa Extreme Whites. However when I turn on the lights the high beam light goes on. Then if I try to acctually turn on the high beams the lights dim to an ugly yellow is this normal? Was there anything I missed when I did this? I thought it would all be simple with the plug n play harness. I even took them off and used the stock for a little to see what would happen and it was the same thing. Any ideas on what I've missed?

I did this mod with no problems. Are you 100% positive you have the connections right?. I know for a fact that when you do this mod, the wires don't hook up the same. You have to switch 2 of the wires around. You CANNOT hook this harness up the same way it was with a 9004. You have to switch the low beam and ground wires around.

This is the drivers side plug. The stock wiring is:
Yellow: High beam
Green: Low beam
Black: Ground
You need to swap the low beam and ground wire for the 9007 bulb. Im not sure what harness you bought or if it has relays. Mine is custom made so I didnt have to cut anything so I can go back to stock. Remember the high beam wire is always in the same location.
For referance, the passengers side is

Light Green: High beam
Blue: Low beam
Black: Ground

You don't need a relay. I just cut the 2 wires, switched them around, and soldered them. There are other ways to do this like in the picture above using a bulb base. I just got lazy and didn't feel like taking the time to do it so I just cut and soldered and it works fine.

The 9007 mod actually makes the 9007 bulbs run backwards.
Low beam setting makes the bulb run on the high beam filiment and when you flick your stalk in the car for high beams, the 9007 bulb will switch to the low beam filiment which makes your high beams useless.
I think the 9007 mod is useless. You can achive the same results just using your stock lights on high beam all the time and aiming your headlights lower. (You'll need to do that as well after you make the conversion.) That keeps the beam pattern much better for the reflector in your headlights.
The 9007 light output axis is wrong for our assemblies.
Just my .02

I'm not sure what you're talking about but if wired correctly low beams are low beams and high beams are high beams. When I flick on my high beams they are most certaintly brighter. Aiming your 9004 high beams lower may achieve better results than the 9007 low beams but you loose out when it comes to high beam useage. I believe the wattage is the same for both when it comes to high beams.

. That makes no sence.
Thats cool I'll have to do it but am I currently driving with my highbeams? It looks so nice and bright but they light up more than just the road so I have a feeling I am but no ones flashed me for it yet.
