Doubtful, Rube.

See below my fuel economy data for the last 2 years. I used only 93 octane before 4/4/06, and have used only 89 octane since. The fuel economy values are a 5-tank moving average to absorb the fluctuations in mpg that come from the numbers of a single tank.

Note how the values have not changed. By far, the biggest factor in MPG is my right foot. On 1/06 I changed my commute to a less stop-and-go drive, which pushed up my economy. Also playing a role is the auto climate control, which has a propensity to run the a/c compressor way too much. I learned to cut down on the climate control activity back in '05, which is why I left it off this chart.

Octane is not part of the equation. If you want to argue otherwise, you're really going to need to bring some hard data. Because I'm not the only one with hard data showing otherwise.
