This one was $85 shipped, and just got installed last night.

Words to the wise:
  • Use the 3/8" extension with the 3/8" U-joint - I shattered a 1/4" U-joint
  • Once you get the bolt loosened, get someone with small hands to get it all out. My hand looks like hamburger meat, but being 6'3" might have something to do with that.
  • Be careful when you are replacing the sensor - the plug has a little copper-looking "staple" (for lack of a better term) that you have to pull off first. I chipped my plug without realizing what was going on.
  • Lord this thing moves now...I wouldn't have figured on that much of a boost in pull.

Yeah, I was just procrastinating. Just ordered the rear O2 sensor which was the original code source.

Or want to work the loaner system.

The cheapest I've seen a knock sensor online (though not looking too hard) was ~$125 (nissanpartstore.com), so yah, hit ebay first.

FYI for anyone who may be interested, there's a way to test your knock sensor before replacing it.

thanks for all the help - I ended up getting one off ebay for $77 and change shipped 2nd day. Ebay is definitely the best place to find one when yours is bad.
Yes, I did have a code flash up, 3 actually. One was for the knock sensor (0304) and the others were 0302 and 0111. I tested the KS about a year ago and knew it was bad, just too lazy to replace it. I can't wait to see what the old maxima is gonna feel like with the new one. Time to fill the bottle!!!
Thanks again for the help, I would've ended up paying about 140 for that POS before I checked here.

Glad it worked out well for you.

How many miles do you have on your Maxima? Just curious.

How did you disengage the electrical connection that was blocking the access to the ks.I not familiar with this kind of connectionand worry that I will break it if I'm just going to pull it out.Did you disconnect all the rubber tubing.?I have a 95 gxe ,auto with 81k .I already ordered mine at Ebay

on the connector, there is a metal clip that looks like a large staple. You need to remove this before you unplug the connector. All you need is a knife to remove the "staple". After it's removed, you can easily unplug the KS from it's harness.

edit: BTW, I replaced mine last night and I can't tell any difference yet in power but have only driven about 7 miles. The check engine light hasn't come on though, so hopefully I will feel some changes in the next few days.

I think he's talking about the pressure sensor control valve at the entrance to the "tunnel". Three hoses, an electrical connector, and a stud with a nut on the bottom. ***** to remove, but I had to to get my hand in there. Hardes't part is getting the nut off the bottom.

thanks! I' m going to try it when my kS arrives. If I can't , will just find somebody in RI to do it for me for $50 .I don't know if this is a fair price. If it is higher .I'll try harder until I break everything .LOL. thanks for the info.

You are right.I am referring to those things , 3 hoses and electrical connector. Can you access the KS just by disconnecting the elec. connector without disconncecting the 3 hoses. Acoording to some it is hard to disconnect the hoses without breaking them.

I didn't think I could get a good shot at the opening without removing the valve. I got the hoses off with twisting and patience though they are fragile from years of heat. If you take them off make sure to put the hoses back to the original ports. mark them somehow. This valve switches the pressure sensor between ambient air pressure and manifold pressure. Your ECU could be very confused if you switch a couple of hoses by accident. If you did tear the hoses though they'd be easy to replace as they are just short hose sections between metal piping in that area.
