Car is over heating! Help!
Hey guys, when I get on the interstate and drive consistently 70-80mph, after about 15mins, my temp gauge rises to hot. The only way to get it down is to blast the heat.
However, in the city, no matter how long I drive it around, I dont have any over heating issues.
Also, my coolant is completely full, and my fan belt was recently replaced. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing my car to overheat during interstate driving? What else can I check. I want to solve this problem before I do damage to my engine! Thanks, Steve

Open the radiator cap when cool and allow to warm up to see coolant flow and fans kicking on and off
Thermostat could be stuck closed.
Hose could have something in it stoping the flow, the suction to the pump could collapse.
System could need a flush
Just some things to check
Good Luck

check the tension on the water pump belt.....it sound like your not getting enough cooling at higher engine speeds...a slipping belt could cause your engine to be overheating...try tightenin the tension (the belt tension up top---tightened it by turnin it clockwise) .... if thats doesnt work well u know its not that.....also make sure the belt is still good at the same time...
also perform the other tasks mentioned above.....bleed air out of the system by running the car at idle (start it when cold) with the radiator cap off. air pockets could also car the engine to run a little rough.....so if its not....well then i doubt that can be the problem.
unless there is any noise coming from the pump....or low coolant level (indicating a leakage somewhere in the system)....i doubt u have a faulty pump.

If its overheating on the highway and never in town my $.02 would be one of the radiater hoses is collapsing. Squeeze them, they should feel firm and springy. The radiater hoses, that is. (There are other applications for this test but they wont help you with car problems) The other test i would do is stand *beside* the car, rev the motor to about 3k and watch the rad hoses to see if they buckle. If they change shape at all they need to be replaced.
You can safely forget about checking any belt tension, since the pump is driven by the timing chain.
