Yes I know this has been beaten to death, but im going to need new brakes/rotors soon, and was wondering what setup is ideal for orgers on spirited driving style. I dont drive hard everyday, but sometimes give it a good push.

I was thinking: Brembo Blanks w/ Hawks HPS. However, I hear that the hawks will warp the brembo blanks quickly. Also, is there a major diff. between say autozone blanks and brembo's ? If I can use generic rotors/pads, with no probs. I would rather do that.

 

Hawk HPS w/ Brembo slotted rotors front, Axxis Ultimate w/ Brembo Blank rears. I had Axxis Ultimates all around, but the fronts died in under 15k miles so I got the Hawks.

The Hawks take a while to warm up, so their cold bite isn't quite as good as with the Ultimates or even OEM. After the first couple of miles in the morning, though, they are VASTLY superior to either pad.

If you are in the habit of panic-stopping from highway speeds and holding the brakes for several minutes while stopped, then of course your rotors will warp. But I do drive pretty hard every day, and my rotors are in tip top shape (although I do tend to be relatively nice to my brakes, all things considered). I don't see any other way to warp them.

 

I would say Powerslot or Brembo Slotted Rotors with HAWK HPS....since u prolly wont see track to often u dont need a BBK

 

What is a BBK?

 

BBK = Big Brake Kit (I.E. Larger Rotors)

Can i run blanks up front with hawks hps ?

 

i wouldn't run blanks up front...that's where your breaking power is. Run blanks in the back and slotted in the front with Hawks.

 

Do these brakes make alot of noise. I replace my brakes a few years ago with some high end metalic pads and they have squeeled every since.

 

Blanks will be fine for your style of driving MaxStylz.

Unless you are autoxing or doing a ton of mountain runs (which in Jersey no such thing) Blanks will do the job. Definetly recommend Brembos over Autoparts store.

Slotted, Dimpled, Cross Drilled, etc, is really just for show on our street cars. Unless you plan to autox or do a lot of track events then they can come in handy for cooling purposes.

But for HWY driving blanks is all that is needed paired with Hawk hps.

 

For street driving, slotted, cross-drilled, and dimpled rotors are good for one thing and one thing only -- and that is catching dirt and grime and moving it out of the way so that it doesn't get stuck between the rotors and pads and dig grooves into your rotors. I've had this happen to me, and it wasn't pretty (squealing, vibration, weird pad wear, uneven braking, etc.). On the street, your brakes will never get hot enough for you to notice any other benefits. My favorite examples of that are STIs and EVOs: if their brakes don't need to be slotted or cross-drilled to work well, neither do yours.

If all you want to do is stop your car well, get blanks. They're the cheapest, they work the best, and they're the nicest on your pads.

If you like the dirt-catching idea, you want slotted rotors. Downsides are that they cost more and will eat your pads faster.

Holes and dimples will also catch dirt, albeit not as well as slots. One problem is that they can be even harder on your rotors than slots (think cheese grater). Another is that they reduce the surface area of your rotors, which will hurt your braking. Air moving across the holes as your rotors spin can also cause a whirring noise while you drive, even when you're not on the brakes. And, of course, they cost more than blanks. All in all, unless you really want the look of holes or dimples, they are very definitely not worth the expense.

I chose slotted rotors because something about my daily commute absolutely tore up my last set of blanks -- I seem to have a knack for getting rocks and debris tossed up into my wheel wells. My current Brembo slotted rotors have been worked harder on the same commute for well over twice the mileage that killed the blanks, and they've been totally fine thus far.

thanx for the input guys, but just to make sure: Hawks HPS will not wear out my blanks quickly correct ? Is there any other pads you would suggest for brembo blanks?

And is the cheapest deal from the group deals from importrp and automax ?

 

Hawk HPS pads are pretty nice on rotors, especially compared to other performance pads.
