this is a complicated thing. you need to get this one thing so that with the new HU its not amplified twice. im not sure exactly how that works. maybe someone can explain it better

Fix it by yourself. The write up is in the audio stickies. You wont need to change speakers if you decide to go with a new aftermarket HU but you need some adapter stuff to run a aftermarket HU with the bose speakers. I currently have a aftermarket HU with the stock bose speakers and all is fine.

Fix the headunit, or install another one?

Anyway, if you install a non-Bose headunit, you must use an electronic adapter between the Bose speakers and the new headunit. Scosche makes one for about $55, and it works well for me. Otherwise, you would have to change out all the speakers.

Did it do it with one CD? or everysingly one?

I get a CD Err sometimes, but my CDs are dirty. A quick wipe down with my shirt and they play fine.

If you have a bose head unit now, just get any bose head unit from 95-99, and its plug and play.

the same thing happened to me my bose cd player stopped reading cds, i was able to replace it with an alpine head unit and keep my current bose speakers. the installer is not going to like to do it but they can or just do it yourself, you will need to by some extra materials or the volume will be very loud since each speaker has a small amplifier that goes to it and the head unit you buy will probably have a small amp too, if you just go to like car toys they will be able to tell you everything

you don't need anything special to replace your bose radio, just the standard dash kit, car reverse harness, and an antena adaptor. your speakers are playing louder because more power is being pushed through each speaker.

you dont need to bypass any amplifier

first thing you should try is running one of those cds cleaners in there. its like a cd with a little brush attached that i guess cleans the lense. seriously, i thought there was no way that was gonna work, but it did. try it first before you tear it apart and solder and mess your headunit up like i did.

You still use tapes?

Why would you want to replace your bose HU with another one? They all go through the same phase..Work good for a few weeks/months then go bad..Just do yourself a favor and buy an aftermarket CDPLAYER.

allright guys i'm sorry, but they should've put an "l" in front of the b to make it what it really is. nothing is compatible with the 2 ohm " blose" system because everything nowadays is 1 ohm. i put in all new jl's and a new pioneer head unit including a 6 channel jl amp with a 250 rms alpine sub. i put the component tweeters where nissan should've put them in the kicker panels next to the woofers for awesome sound. the amp has 4 ajustable crossover points and ajustable volume levels for avoiding that " flubby" sounding bass that you get with some amps. 100% improvement over stock stereo, if you have the $$$$$$$ i suggest replacing entire system, technology is way ahead of the 4 gen blose system and you will LOVE the way your max sounds with a new setup!!!!

I take it you drive with your head down at your ankles?

Fact is, tweeters work best pointing directly at your ears. Anything else loses detail. To give you credit though, you have enthusiasm to make up for it.

wrong, tweeters are supposed to be close to the woofers for optimum sound qaulity. and, i hated the tweeters in my ears, i could'nt hear anything going on around me, too tinny sounding. and my new jl's are 100% better sounding so i did that because i did'nt need them in my ear anymore. going deaf man, and when you have the setup that i do you don't need to have them there. the blose system sounded halfway decent with the tweeters up there. not this one.

TEL message

I have a 99 maxima with Bose system, and everything was working fine until this morning when I got into my car and noticed the stereo had the letters "TEL" on the display. I can't turn it on, or anything. I can still load and eject CDs. Any ideas?

What if you're going for a hu from another 4th gen, also bose? My guess is you can just stick it in, no need for an adapter or anything?

Which means they should *both* be pointing at your ears.

Lower tones are less dependent on direction, so if you're going to have one end of the tonal range pointing in the wrong direction, it's the low end. Given that the stock setup puts the front midrange and bass down at your feet, I boost the midrange a little bit and that compensates well enough. I doubt anyone is going to relocate the whole front speaker assembly up higher as would be the goal for real audiophiles.
