About to order a Cattman FastCat...

I'm after it for fitment and quality reasons -- all I'll have to do is unbolt the old one, bolt the new one in, and be done with it. It'll run me around $250 shipped, because I'll need it by Tuesday.

I'm not looking for gains here. I'm just looking to replace my stock cat, which is rusted and falling apart.

Anyone want to tell me not to do it?

EDIT: Changed the price from $300 to $250 after getting a real price estimate.

Anyone want to tell me not to do it? You have 4 hours!

300 dollars for mod that will give very little to no gain?
A straight pipe will give more of gain then a hi flow cat and a straight pipe will only give you 1-2hp(NA) if that.
If you have a y pipe then your good. Eliminating the 2 precats in the Y frees up the exhaust, thats where most of the restriction is. The OEM cat isnt that restrictive due to those two precats.
But its your money, do as you wish.

If your cat is bad, sure why not. Otherwise take a look through the OEM one, it's a thin layer of screen, not restrictive at all.

Eek, I guess I should have specified that I'm not looking for gains at all. What I'm looking to do is replace my rusty, beat stock cat with one broken stud, which is now being held on by the other stud and a C-clamp assisted by some Fast Metal epoxy....

Above post duly edited.

I look at it this way. If you go to a muffler shop around my way its about $125-$150 for a cat plus install. So lets say $200+ in the end. The cat will probably have to be modded because its too short or too long, and you will end up with the same rust problems. I would glady pay the $300 for the cattman quality and fitment. Its not a matter of gains.

I say you have several better options.

1) Get a cheapo Ebay "test pipe" like tons of people do, I did and had absolutely no fitment issues, and it bolted right up in 10 minutes, costing me a total of $25
2) Get a new OEM catalytic converter for like $140 and put it in yourself, again takes 10 minutes and absolutely no fitment problems.

I simply could never justify spending $300 bucks which is twice as much as the OEM part, to replace something that doesnt really do anything.

Well, my alternative is a Magnaflow direct fit, which would require no modification and cost about $95 shipped or $112 overnighted... and then I'd need nuts, bolts, and gaskets on top of that, which would probably run me about $50 more, all in. So, let's say $150-$170, and no install cost because I'd install it myself.

The Cattman FastCat wouldn't even ship until Monday, and would probably have to be overnighted. I just checked with Brian Catts, and he said that since they're on sale, the price would be closer to $250 shipped.

The neat thing about the Magnaflow is that it's certified even for Cali emissions, which is extra assurance that I will pass inspection. The Cattman FastCat doesn't have that certification under its belt. Of course, that's probably just because no one has felt like spending the time and money to get it approved... apparently it functions at least as well as other cats in that department. Still, though, the label is nice.

Basically, I'd be paying $100 and waiting 3 days for whatever advantages (fitment, quality, flow, emissions, whatever) that the Cattman would have over the Magnaflow.

Gosh... I really should have done a better job asking the question in the first place, huh?

Why not buy a WS hi-flow for $99? Thats what I bought when I needed a new cat to pass smog. Im not 100% sure, but I seem to remember it comming with gaskets and bolts.
