When I depress my clutch pedal I get this old squeaky mattress sound. I don't hear it very much when I am driving but I am not sure that it gets any quieter it is probably just masked by other noises.
What areas can possibly be causing this sound?
It is not the pedal itself as the noise is very faint with the windows up.
Thanks for any help, I am going to try in get the car in the air in the next couple of days and have someone work the clutch, I would just like to have a couple ideas before I get started.
*edit* BTW I have an ACT stage 1 clutch.

I certainly don't know much about car's in general. But a squeaky mattress is from the old spring's. I'm sure clutch's use spring's to bring back the pedal when u depress the clutch. Find it and probably just oiling it would do the trick or replace it.
The sound is not from the interior.
Mr. Willis I was thinking of a return spring for the pedal (on the other side of the firewall) but I suppose we will see in the next few days.

ya its the pivot that the throwout fork pivots on when you hit the clutch. its just a metal ball on the other side of the bellhousing, and its running dry of grease, AFAIK, the only way to fix it is it remove the transmission and regrease it, mine does the same thing, and so did my 91 maxima...

its right under the throw out fork, its just a little ball that it snaps over. pull the fork off of it and put some high temp grease on it, make sure you get enough on, but not dripping off, you dont want that grease ending up on the clutch...
I had a similar like sqeek, but it was the spring by the firewall that was creating the noise, some greese and the noise was gone. If the noise is comming from the exterior of the car . . . some work will be needed to be done.

When I spayed my greese (lithum greese) I kinda sprayed the general area but I'm sure when it hit that spring, that cured the noise.
Had to take that pic upside down under my steering wheel . . .
man there isnt much space to snap a pic!
