Thoughts on Exhaust

I merely want additional opinions before I go and order stuff and have work done.

My current setup: stock manifolds, Warpspeed y-pipe, stock cat, 2.25" piping w/ Thrush resonator (glasspack), A33B muffler.

I'm changing the cat-back only. I will be going to 2.5" piping, dual Thrush resonators (same model I have now, but 2.5" version), and a Borla Pro XS muffler. I will likely weld a flange to the end of one of the resonators and bolt it directly to the cat and have the resonators in line with each other, then the 2.5" bent piping over/around the axle, then the muffler.

I'm going for civil-yet-beastly here. My current setup is too quiet, and the tone isn't quite perfect. I'm hoping that with this new setup it will be slightly louder and have a more perfected tone to it. If it's still too quiet, I could possibly remove one of the resonators and weld a section of piping it's place.

What are your thoughts? Do you think it will meet my needs? Will I be OK weight-wise on the b-pipe having an extra resonator, as in, will it sag too much?

TIA

The dual resonators won't entirely compensate for the louder muffler I don't think, but if they do, I will simply remove one like I said above.

I have no good pictures of the muffler, but I will go take some if you like.

thrush resonators are junk, youll actually loose power by using them and will sound weird.. get some perforated core resonators by magnaflow. You should be fine with the borla muffler, also if the exhaust is too heavy, get some nismo exhaust hangers to compesate for the weight increase..

They can't be too bad, I have one on my car now and it sounds fine They aren't even Thrush brand, I don't think. I forget what they actually are. They are indeed perforated core resonators, though, like you're suggesting I get.

Nismo hangers...that was a ricer joke I hope

I hope the nismo thing wasnt a joke cause they seriously sell those at the local dealer... no joke. I was browsing the things for the 350z and came across that, seats and some other strange stuff.

2 Resonators? I'm thinking quiet part 2

The Borla will be most responsible for any change.

I'm not paying for a Nismo exhaust hanger, if there is such a thing. It's likely pointlessly expensive. I have no pics of the internals. I can just tell you I looked into one when I first got it, it's a straight-through tube with holes all over the inside of the tube.

Well, like I said, I can always remove one, right? I realize the muffler will be the biggest change in sound, which is why I'm still skeptical on one or two resonators. Two may be just enough or too quiet...and I dunno.

For 1FSTMAX, here's a link to the ones I'd be using:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku

Same as I have now, but the 2.5" version.

Bringing this thread back up. Ordered the muffler and a SINGLE resonator (not two) last night. Can't seem to find a nice, inexpensive tip to save my life though...especially not locally.

So I have a question...will a resonated tip such as this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/STAIN...QQcmdZViewItem
work ok? That is to say, will it change how the exhaust sounds at all? I know resonated ones are supposed to make it a TINY bit quieter (right?) but I'm only running a single resonator so that's fine with me, but will it change the sound?

Also, it is 2.5" and the outlet of the muffler is 2.5"...will it be able to be stretched to fit?

You can get this at Pep Boys for less! Keep in mind, that $12.45 muffler comes with a $12 shipping fee = $24 plus tax. As for the sound, it will mostly come from the muffler and resonator not from the tip. If your muffler is stock, then maybe the tip might slightly change the sound.

Don't have a Pep Boys within reasonable driving distance. I went ahead and ordered that tip. Muffler will be the Borla Pro XS like I stated in the original post.

Had that muffler with a single resonator and non-resonated 3.5" tip. You'll like it.
