does a lower temp tstat help?

i used to have a pontiac bonneville, and switching from teh stock 195* tstat to a 180* was a recommended mod. is that something that should be done on a 95 se? would it help or would it hurt?

15* is not really that much. It could help, sure, but its not a huge difference. Do they even make a different one for the VQ? Im only familar with Jime's shimming method.

I have an aftermarket temp gauge. Durring traffic/idling the engine gets up to about 205*. Cruising on the highway it drops to around 175. I also have a switch for manual fans. I can drop the temp to 160 with the fans and heater on, while idling. So in a nut shell you can get the same effect without swapping the thermastat.

Aarron92se says he gets his best times at the track with coolent temp around 150*.

yeah thing is the maxes run damn cool, now if you had a turbo'ed max esp. the 3.0 you'd like to have that and a turbo timer.. but thats off the subject.

Personally I think J had the best idea, run the heat and manual fans at the track.
