i know this has been thrown around before, but im posting for myself, because i never solved it after reading other peoples posts. i have 95 and its a bich to start. its usually a little worse when the engine is cold. it just seems like i have to crank it too much to get it to start up. sometimes when it starts, the engine shakes the car pretty hard, you can feel each cylinder firing, with lots of force, like 5 or 10 real quick hard pulses at like 100rpms until it springs to life, if that makes any sense. aside from the confusion i just wrote, sometimes it does help to give a little gas when i start it.then other times it starts more like a normal car, with a normal amount of cranking.... it runs extremely strong once it is running, what do you think it is?

 

according to the haynes manual with cold starts

battery discharged or low
malfunctioning fuel system (fpr,fuel filter,etc)
faulty coolant temperature sensor
faulty intake air temerature sensor
injectors leaking
faulty ignition system
defective maf sensor

get a manual man it helps alot

 

What have you tried to fix your problem so far after reading other people's posts?

 

I had the same problem before, and replaced all sensors and had it checked out twice, nobody knew what was really causing it. Then immediately after I made and installed my own grounding system, about 6 points of connection, the problem went away. I had had this problem for like 4 years and just lived with it, but since then (about 1 year ago) I have NEVER had one single hard start. Try that out if you havent already, most people just do it anyways so it cant hurt. Cost of the fix, bout 30 bucks.

 

Try this for trouble shooting. Turn the ignition on without cranking. Depress the gas peddle a couple of inches. If you do this with the door open and the air conditioning fan off (ie make the car quiet) you should be able to hear the fuel pump turn on when you depress the gas. Depress the gas for about 30 seconds, release the gas peddle then start the car normaly. If this works for you on a regular basis then its a fuel problem during start. I believe the fuel pump is supposed to keep pressure on the system between starts. As the fuel pump gets older, it may not hold the pressure as well.

I'v been doing this with my car for about a year now. My problem wasnt as bad as yours but I would get occasional rough starts if my car set for several days. When I get in my car now I turn the ignition on and depress the gas while I put my seatbelt on,5-10 seconds is all, then crank. Its been working for me. Ill probably need a new fuel pump soon though.

yessss i fixed it! thanks guys.... i ended up adding a bunch of grounding wires to the starter, and then just for kicks, added another grounding wire on the intake manifold, on a bolt near the injectors, starts like a dream now...

 

And they say grounding kits don't help........

 

change your coolant temperature sensor ...$27 autozone.(mine was doing the same thing)

 

He already fixed it.
