Mods question.
I know this is debatable, but I want to get some opinions before I spend my hard earned cash. I have a 1995 stock GLE. First on the mod list is a suspension followed by rims and tires. I am leaning towards H&R springs paired with Tokico Illuminas. Comments on this pairing? Pros Cons?
As for wheels, I am DEFINATELY going with Axis Hiro's 18x18.5, offset 45mm wrapped with Toyo Proxies 4. Now for the tire question. I'm wanting go go with 245/40/18. On Tirerack, it is recommended to get tires that are 235/40/18. With this wheel size, offset and tire size will they stick out too far? Any rubbing issues that any of you forsee?
Finally, Does anyone have pics of this setup on a 4th generation they can post? I've seen the 5th generation on Axis Hiros, but I can't locate pics on a 4th.

Unless your shocks are worn out right now, hold off on the suspension. Don't fix what isn't broken. Same with wheels and tires, wait until you have tires that are worn or have a broken belt deserved to the be replaced, likewise wait to replace wheels unless cracked. Either reason is reason enough to get a new set of wheels and tires.

Unless the struts are blown or weak I dont see a reason to place them just yet with the H&R's. However if you spend the money on the struts and do the springs and struts at once you'll save a bit of time and money working on it and getting alignments.
As for the tire and rim question...Nice selection with the Hiro's. Those are some sharp looking wheels. You shouldnt have any problems fitting a 245/40 on there with that offset. I think the mods you're looking at are good choices. Cant wait to see the results. Post pics when you can.

I heard H&R were good, I had S-techs and Illuminas on both my 4th Gens and they were great but still gave a gap for 17"s.

I know there are a couple of 4th gen'ers riding around with Hiros. I definitely like them, and have considered putting them on my car. It'll definitely look really hot with the drop and the rims.

I have H&R Sports with Tokiko Illuminas on my SE. I don't have Hiros, but my wheels (17") still have 5 spokes, so just use a little imagination

Also, the ride quality is alright. It's a bit harsh over bumps and railroad tracks, but they have a very nice firm feeling to them.

Thanks for all the responses and thank you MainSource for hunting down some pics for me to look at.......VERY much appreciated. Any more comments? Does anyone else think that at 245/40 is too much tire? Should I go with 235/40?
radiohead, that drop looks very nice. hope this is not too OT, but I was wondering if you have any trouble scraping with steep inclines in driveways, etc.
I have to be really careful with scraping in my lowered prelude. I am getting a Maxima soon and it seems like the HR Sport is a nice drop without being too slammed. how much finger gap is there?

On an 4A A32..
Hiros in that size will make you holeshot like a Civic... especially at 4200' elevation. But they will look good with 245/40-18. 45mm offset will not sitck out.
Illuminas with any spring combo is good since they're adjustable.

245/40 is not too much tire, but will make the 18's look like 17's. 225/40/18, you'll have a MUCH BETTER CHANCE of denting your rim. Much safer to go with 235/40 and even better with 245/40, but again, it will make ur 18's look a lot smaller

Also, I have absolutely no problems scraping, even on my driveway, where I have to go up a 40-50 degree incline ramp

Edit: I guess I should add that I BARELY make it up that ramp

On a 4 speed automatic(4A) 4th generation Nissan Maxima(a32) equipped with a VQ30DE engine, your initial take off(launch, holeshot, etc) will suffer due to the heavy weight of those wheels and the lack of sufficient stall speed and slight torque deficient engine. This situation will be much more prounced at a higher altitude where normally aspirated engines (N/A) suffer due to lower atmospheric pressure.
So as far as looks, it wont be as bad. Seems as if you're more into looks, so never mind what I sad.

I appreciate the insight. I'm not necessarily interested in looks, I'm interested in performance followed by looks. I do like the looks of this wheel, but in no means don't want to hinder performance. I found the specs on the Axis Hiro. Each wheel is 22.4 lbs. Is this considered to be heavy? Also, I plan on doing a BBK as part of my project.
