Wiper Switch Replacement
Wiper Switch Replacement
Our Maxima's intermittent wiper doesn't work. It does wipe at normal and fast speeds, and it turns off, just doesn't work intermittently.
I'm guessing it's a bad switch, so I'd like to replace. Can anyone point me to instructions?
TIA

Funny you should ask, since as you were typing this I was swapping a variable intermittent switch into my GXE.
First take off the lower dash panel beneath the steering wheel, it is secured by two phillips head screws.
Next remove the two 10mm bolts holding the metal piece underneath the steering wheel previous concealed by the piece you just removed.
Now you'll remove the upper and lower plastic panels actually surrounding the wiper switch, by removing the six phillips head screws from underneath the steering column. You'll need to push down on the top to keep tension on the assemply and pop the screws out.
Pull off the upper and lower pieces (the trim around the key cylinder will come out too since it is held in place by the pices you just unscrewed) and you'll see that the wiper switch is held in place by two phillips head screws. After unscrewing it pull it out from the stering column and unclip the electrical connection.
Putting it all back together is simply the reverse of these instructions.

You're more than welcome. BTW I would highly recommend getting a variable intermittent wiper switch found in the SE and GLE. It allows you to change the intermittent speed to match the rain conditions. I had it in I think every other Maxima I've had and it's one of those little things that makes a big difference in everyday driving.
Either way be sure your replacement is from a 97-99 as the electrical connection is different in the 95-96.
