Fog Housing HIDs

I don't think I've ever heard why, even after searching...what is it that requires us to use micro H3 HID bulbs in our fog housings? Space, I assume, but what's the reason for the lack of space? Is it the glare shield?

I'd love to grab a 3000k H3 kit off eBay since they're so ungodly cheap, but I want to know this.

Yes its the glare shiels that gets in the way. I was able to heat up and disassemble the ebay replacement fogs to remove the shield but the factory fogs have to be cut open. Even after removing the glare shield the bulb was really close to the glass lense. Everything is doable with patience.

The shields do bend, I know that. I've bent my own for various reasons before, and you can bend them upwards quite a distance. I don't feel like cutting mine open, but if I bend it up far enough, could I possibly make the bulb fit without actually REMOVING the shield?

Do you have fog HIDs then? I take it you must have the regularly sized ones?

Why Nissan chose H3? H3 is a compact package, comprised of a VERY short bulb and a power flexible power wire instead of prongs.

However, since H3 utilizes a horizontal type filament, there aren't any powerful halogen replacements and the D2S has a completely different focal point compared to the H3. H3 HID kits generally do not perform well at all. The only decent HID kit that had a somewhat similiar focal point to the D2S are the H7, H9 and the H11.

Dunno. I think the Maxima was designed just as the H4 was gaining popularity. Maybe Nissan didn't want to redesign their headlight over a bulb change. Also the 9007 started picking up around the same time too.

Wait.

You're going to buy a fog HID kit... AND THEN REMOVE THE GLARE SHIELD?

Do regular-sized H3 bulbs create more output than micro-H3 bulbs?

Buy it now...but it said "kit" in the description and ended up being nothing but a pair of capsules. Yes, over $100 for a set of capsules.

Yes, fogs can be aimed, but changing the beam pattern and then reaiming them not to blind anyone would but very little useable light on the road.
