power steering squeek

For the past few weeks my power steering squeeks when I first start my car. In that time its hard to turn the wheel and it squeeks very loud. After a few mminutes of warming up it stops though. There are no leaks, and when I tried to listen to exactly where it came from it was right under the ps resevoir by the hose for the power steering fluid (I think).

Anyway I tried searching and just found out theres a belt that might be the problem? Any insight on this would be appreciated. And I have drained the ps fluid and put in more. Thanks again.

check your power steering belt, it may be worn or loose

can I change that on my own?

and my second question, if it is in fact the belt, why is it hard to turn the wheel when the cars cold, but once its warm the squeek stops and the wheel turns with ease? I have heard from a few others that it could be the belt, but the fact that it stops is wierd. Thanks for the help.

Warmer the car, warmer (thinner) PS fluid.

As the belt warms up and more importantly the pulleys, they catch.

Unless your belt is cracked or in bad shape I would just adjust.

this is probably a dumb question, but how would I adjust the belt?
