check your MAF sensorconnection
when its not hooked up it doesnt rev past 2000 and sputters like like its gonna die.
If its plugged in, unplug it, check for dirt/grime whatever and plug it back in.
If that doesnt work get a new MAFS

Sounds like your MAF could be bad. If you have any friends who have maximas you could swap MAfs to see if that really is it. You can find a used maf on here or ebay for around $60.

I was following a cement truck on the interstate and a chunk hit the bottom of the radiator. Before I got to a gas station the car started doing the same thing, only ran below 2k. Temp was fine, just completely out of coolant since there was a hole in the bottom of the radiator.

Wouldn't hurt to check your coolant level.

Reliable place to purchase

I just took my Maxima to the dealer yesterday due to problems with my '96 cutting off when I am stopped or when slowing down. I noticed that the RPM drops to 0. The dealer indicated that my Mass Airflow sensor and Knock sensor is bad. The dealer charges $610 to replace the Mass Airflow Sensor and $760 to replace the knock sensor. I just checked ebay for a Mass Airflow Sensor for a Maxima, but I didn't see any. Any suggestions for reputable supplier(s)?

Tps!!!

If it is not your MAF
CHECK YOUR TPS!! I had the same problem. So I went and got a trottle body with the throttle positioning sensor already set off of an old 4th generation maxima swapped it with my old one and i no longer have that problem.

Wow. Excellent job raising this thread from the dead. Did you not see that it is an 8 year old thread? Check the dates before you post.
