Testing Coilpack w/ Multi-Meter

Does anyone know how to test a coil pack with a multi meter??

What Ohms does it read and what wires??

Does it have to be in the car or can you test it in your hand?

Thanks

Old thread, but no answer. What are the pins to check on the 4th gen coil pack. Also what is the proper value?

Thanks

John

There are 3 connections:
Pin 1 - red wire on every coil pack
Pin 2 - black wire on every coil pack
Pin 3 - different color on each coil pack (trigger from ECU)

measuring between Pin 1 and Pin 2 connections:
reads 1.6 kilohms (polarity doesn't matter).

measuring between the Pin 2 and Pin 3 connections:
reads 7.1 megaohms (polarity doesn't matter).

measuring between Pin 3 and Pin 1 connections:
positive lead on Pin 1 reads open (or infinity)
positive lead on Pin 3 reads 7.7 megaohms

Thanks for the response. This car is a never ending project

Testing doesnt always work though, it can test fine and not work. The only 100% accurate way to test it is to, with the car running, unplug individual CP's and see if the idle hiccups. If it does then that CP is good but if nothing changes then its bad. Easier I think too

^^ this.

Alot of times the coil pack is torn. the problem is the tear doesnt manifest except at operating temp.

So let the car warm up first then do as ShocknAwe suggests
