5 spd swap with auto ecu ?

This is really the only thing thats holding me back, i DONT want to lose my technosquare ecu. I have searched threads and it seems that it doesnt matter ? Just the overdrive light will be on right ? Also since i have a 2001 de-k motor i wanted to do the 2000~01 transmission as well. Should i get limited slip, is it worth it ?

Since many 5MT users have used the auto ecu's, I can't see a huge problem except for the overdrive light (which, if you really wanted, you could remove the bulb) or some CEL's (thought I remember reading about those, don't know how many or which one's).
Even though I haven't driven a LSD Maxima yet, I can only imagine that the LSD would be more than worth it. I dream of having one in my car...
BTW, does your Technosquare ECU have the extended rev limiter? If so,I can see why you don't want to give that bad boy up.

I just completed the swap in my 98SE using the 01 AE tranny with LSD and i'm still using my stock auto ECU..

CEL comes on with the auto tranny codes but that's it.. I have a 98 SE 5spd ecu I'm just lazy at the moment to put it on.

as far as LSD..i live in canada so my car came stock with LSD and the 01 tranny i put on has LSD as well..I cant imagine the wheel hop i'd get without the LSD... it's def worth it if you can pick one up.

i have put 2 different auto ecu's in my maxima just to see what would happen. car ran just fine with both of them, and like mentioned above, the service engine light will pop on because of the auto tranny codes that show.

I have a 5spd with an auto ECU, and it runs 100%. The only problems are:

1. OD light blinks for a few seconds when I turn the car on, and then stops.

2. CEL is on; I have about 8 codes related to the auto tranny (e.g. P-N switch, signal from TCM, various solenoids, etc.). Not a big deal, as long as you can find a mechanic who isn't a turd when it comes time for your inspection.

I've heard that 5th gen trannies make the shifter sit back slightly more than 4th gen trannies. Other than that, they're internally identical, so there's no reason to pick a 5th gen tranny over a 4th gen one. And yes, you should definitely get LSD if you can (you'll need the appropriate axles as well).

I had my swap done about 2 months ago and only problems I am having with the ECU is that my RPMs will drop to .6 only after about 3 secs of car standign still, all the other time if I put my car in neutral and just roll it stays at around 1.3 RPM, which ECU should I get to stop that from happening.

p.s. and I have the CEL on of course.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. When the car is moving (and occasionally when you're just revving it at a stop), the auto ECU will hold the RPMs at about double the idle speed until a few seconds after the car stops moving.

Any feedback from people with 5-speed ECUs on whether theirs does that too?

OEM 5 speeds do that too sometimes.

Okay then. That means there shouldn't be ANY major difference in operation, no?

i drove around with a auto ts ecu in my car. i think you can just take out the tcm and the od light will not come on. with the ts ecu it did keep rpms a lot higher than usual. i think the stock auto ecu my rpms stayed up at 1000 when i was rolling in neutral, but with the ts ecu the rpms stayed up at around 2000-1500.

-If you pull the TCM, you will take care of the OD light blinking upon startup. you will still have the CEL on though if you're using an auto ecu. I have a 5spd JWT ecu and i did the 5spd conversion and occasionally when i check codes i get the P-N switch as well, and I have no idea why.

-I heard the 5th gen trannies and shift linkage make the shifter sit further back as well, but if you get a STS which usually makes the shifter sit forward, it works out perfectly. i have some pics somewhere on my cardomain of the shifter sitting in neutral if anybody wants to see.

-i have an 01 AE tranny in my '95 and i love the vlsd. DcMan, seeing that is snows where you're from, i don't think you'll regret getting one either.

If you remove the TCM when you do the swap you will have no blinking OD light and your CEL codes will be reduced from 8 to 1... well worth it. Just the auto ECU by itself works fine, and DEFINATELY get a LSD tranny!
