Score! Low milage LSD.
Not that I really wanted to buy a new tranny, nor am I thinking if it as a performance mod, but I needed a new tranny. Since I bought the car with 87k the input shaft bearings were making noise. After a new clutch, redline fluid, it got worse and now the differential bearings are shot. Its been leaking since the clutch job; out of the drivers axle seal. I did originally replace the seals with Nissan ones but I figued I messed up or ripped them. So I bought a new seal from NAPA (2x the cost BTW) . Before I put it in I checked to see if the axle was in all the way. Thats wheen I found out that the bearings were bad since the axle wiggles around in the tranny. Now wonder it was getting louder! So needless to say its on its way out. I have been looking for a replacement tranny for some time. I almost bought a 110k mile I30t tranny a few weeks back. I didnt.... But luckly, I get to install this baby:
Its out of a 2001 AE, with less than 60k miles. It was local and it wasnt a jillion bux! I had to get the axle too. 1 year/12k mile warranty too! All said and done, just under $900 shipped. Im almost looking forward to installing it.

Veeeery nice.
My tranny actually seems like it's in pretty damn good shape after 165k, besides the worn synchros. But that means that I just get good at double-clutching. But One of these days, when I get the $$ (okay a long time from now), I'm going to pony up for a low mileage 3.5 and AE tranny, with matching Raxle and all. Ohh what a day that will be.
Oh yeah, I see you have ABS.

No the fork is missing, along with the clip that holds it in. I guess when the tranny was inspected and cleaned the fork wasnt put back on. No biggie, I can always use my original one. However this time around I will prbably replace the retaining clips for the TB and fork.

I wonder why the US 4th Gens didn't come with LSD (for the most part, or is it all of them). I have a 95 SE Canadian model that came with LSD and I'm just shy of 64K, mostly highway miles.
I'm not sure if its got something to do with equipping the Canadian models with LSD because of snow and ice, which my car has seldom ever been driven in.

thats why, the weather condition in the winter time are far worse than those in the US. LSD is very good on those snowy and slushy days.
and probably some other cost cutting issues also.

Funny you mention Canadian Maxes with LSD. This one is from Canada. It seems only their climate needed the LSD. But thats really silly since many northern states could use the same options. Its cool that the I30t had LSD stock, but why jip the Max? Also the Sentra SE-R had LSD since its the sporty model, and again the G20t.

please put up a post once you have it installed and driving
its on my to do list for my Max. i got a little problem with my third gear and as much as id like to get the quaife, for that much money i would much rather upgrade the clutch, rebuild the tranny and get the VLSD.
please man let us know how it drives
im as antzy as a school kid just thinking about it

Stupid weather! We got hail and .75" of rain in about 1 hour yesterday. The highs were in the 80's...... crazy. Today has been wet off and on. So if my parents garage was cleaned out then I would be working on it tonight, or tomorrow. Its supposed to rain off and on all weekend. Weaksauce.

I don't fit in that category as I live at the coast where it is mild and the climate is much like that of Seattle, Portland and San Francisco.
Now Toronto, Winnipeg, Montreal and Ottawa, etc. in winter are another matter and would be much like say Minneapolis in the winter.
