center console heating up .

For some reason my center console heats up whenever I shift and drive a little more aggresively, on driver side its fine, however one day, my friend that was sitting in passenger seat notcied substaintial heat coming from somewhere. It is comin from my center console and also when I reached below the shift **** to feel the lever, it was hot ( not 2 hot but pretty warm). Any ideas on this ?

Thanks

you do realize that the bulge in the interior compartment where your center console sits atop of is where the exhaust runs through below the car right? and the base of your shifter and shift linkage is directly above the cat converter and distal end of the Ypipe (only inches away).

i don't know what can explain the heat you're getting though, maybe you have an exhaust leak there? or what somebody said earlier about the cat. getting hot.

Also the heater ducts are down there too. They go under the seats to heat the rear. Maybe you have the heat on and its slowly comming out.

You said you had a 5spd conversion done. There's a shield that's bolted to the floor that seals around the shifter inside the consol. It's pretty thick rubber material. if you didn't grab that part and install one then heat could be rising up from the exhaust through that hole. It's worth a check. You can see it by just popping off the center consol trim around the shifter. Look at where the shifter goes through the floor. If you can see pavement, then it's not there.
