Cut or pull transmission bearings?

After a long long break from the Maxima, I'm finally rebuilding my transmission. I dropped and disassembled the tranny, and now I have the chore of removing the bearings.

Should I cut these things off? I'm not even sure how I'd go about using a puller on these things...what would the shaft of the puller push against?

Bring it to a machine shop, costs about $20 and takes them 5 minutes to pull the bearings.

Hmm...$20 sounds cheap...my local guy charges $40/bearing (wheel bearings, anyhow). Maybe I need to find a more reasonable guy

I would rather get it done myself, as I'm looking to get this thing back together this week. I have yet to find a shop that'll do it the same day you drop it off. Maybe I'll call around some more.

Wheel bearings are much more stubborn than tranny bearings. With a proper splitter and press, a transmission shop can pull them all in less than an hour. I pull the mainshaft and input shaft bearings and cut off the diff bearings.
