What sounds does your car make when you try to start it?

Anybody home? I agree, you need to tell whether you hear something in the engine or not. When your battery is low, you may hear a clickety sound from the starter motor, for example.

when i start it it has that sound "tssshht..." it won't start. THen i stop take the key out and try again and it does that. It usually happens when my car stays in the sun. When its really hot.

1.) Last year we went for a vacation and the car wasn't used for a month. The car won't start; i jump started it and ran a couple of laps around the the leahill area to get it going. (this is why i think the battery could be one of the problem.)

2.) Last August i had it serviced at my local nissan dealer and they said that the park plugs are starting to show wear. (So i thought it could be that too.)

and lastly...

3.) Sometimes my key won't work... I thought if i replace it with my duplicate it'll be fine(since the original key is kinda messed up) but the duplicate started to not to work too. (So could it be the starter?)

I asked a friend of mine what could be the problem; he said it could be the carburator or the injectors. He recomended buying injector cleaner.

What do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

Carburator? Maximas do not have carbs lol. What year is your car? If it's a 99, your immobolizer might be the culprit.

ok i had it checked at schucks; they said my carburator is fine. My battery is fine.

They said that it my be my injectors. I bought the cleaner and put it in my gas tank. They instructed me to put a lil bit of gas to mix. So i did. then put another bottle after 3000 miles.

so that's two down; carburator is not a problem. THe battery too.

so its the starter? spark plugs?

take your car to parts store like autozone or advanced

they can do a free test for your battery and alternator, if you pull your starter of they can test it as well.

they can also pull the codes just in case it's something else

all of the above won't cost you a dime and it's a good place to start

good luck !!!

Is your car a 99? If so check if the security light stays lit when you crank it.

I was having a problem starting my car when it was in the sun and it was hot outside, i.e., summer. (not a problem in the cooler months). I would turn the key and nothing. I checked the battery and the starter, but neither was the problem.

I finally traced the problem to the ignition wire in the steering column. The wire costs about $50 at AutoZone. It's easy to replace, but you have to remove the steering column cover, and the panel beneath the steering column.

A low cost alternative, which I used before replacing the wire, keep the interior of the car as cool as possible. I'd keep the windows cracked when the car was parked and put up a windshield shade to keep the sun from beaming directly onto the steering column. This works 90% of the time, even in the Texas heat.
