The ECU controls how much air and fuel it lets into the engine. In the case of an intake, the ECU needs to be reset so it will more quickly detect the increased airflow and compensate with more fuel, thus giving you more horsepower.

I respectfully disagree. It is the Mass Air Flow Sensor which detects the flow of air into the engine. It is able to "quickly detect the increased airflow" because that is what it does in a stock engine. There is no need to reset the Engine Control Module. It won't hurt anything to do so, but there is no need to do it.
