o2 sENSOR Question
Okay, now forgive me if this is a dumb question: I was just wondering, how important are O2 sensors when it comes to performance.
The reason I ask is because one of my O2 sensors located on my headers in not plugged in because there was no room for the O2 sensor to sit in (thats OBX for you). I've been meaning to go to a muffler shop so they can tap into the header and plug in the O2 sensor.
I had spoken to this one mechanic and he told me not to worry about it because it just gives readings for emissions purposes, which I dont see how that is true...
My ECU also has thrown out the code for the back O2 sensor for a while now. I have replaced it, reseted the codes, and it still reads a faulty O2 sensor.. I figure this could be because of the elimination of the Catalytic Convertor. (BTW, this is the only code that its reading.. 0902-- thats checking it with a screw driver directly on the ECU)
My take on this is that the O2 sensors tell the ECU how much gas the engine is needing in order for it to run correctly..
I also have noticed that once I put my headers in, my times in the 1/4 mile have slightly dropped within the last 6 months..
I know that it could be other factors that are affecting my 1/4 mile times but could this be one of them??

Replace the sensors. You know what you have to do, do it!
