WTF is this

ok, on an automatic trans there is something that clicks under the shifter when i hit the brake in PARK. You can see it moving if you take off the shifter cover and look in there and hit the brake, but what is it? Some little lever clicks once everytime i hit the brake in PARK.

Would remote start have anything to do with it? When the car is remotely started the car will die if u hit the brake without putting the key in first.
