Can you ride on just lowering springs w/ stock shocks?
i would just wait my brother had some drop springs and his struts were gone in about 2 weeks. he ended up buying a tein kit and its much better. but if u just put the springs on its gunna be double the work because ur gunna have to take them out again to put the struts in.
ive been on low springs for a few months now and my struts arent bad yet, im impressed. i was expecting them to blow in like 2 weeks like everybody says, but they're still goin strong, no leaks or anything. My car has about 90k on it now BTW. I say you do it, because swapping suspension is very easy, plus you'll have time to save enough funds for good aftermarket struts, and your car will look good too.
A) It depends on the struts. Are they OEM? High miles? Leaking?
B) Are you getting H techs, or S techs? The H techs would be alright on brand new SE struts. S techs are too low.
The S techs are garbage so if you plan on them you may as well forget about running any non ajustable strut. They are not stiff enough, too low, and basically leave you on the bump stops giving you a terrible ride. H techs on the other hand are not bad at all. They are softer and less of a drop which could be paired with a non adjustable.
Seeing as you have a 96 chances are your stock struts are weak and could be replaced. If you are on a tight budget go with the Tokico kit with the HP's. They offer a decent drop, ride, and all at an unbeatable price.

shoulda saved up for coilovers.......you can do whatever you want, but just don't start another thread saying that your shocks are blown afterwards. They will go no matter what if you're on stock shocks.
s-techs suck for maximas...but are good for other cars...so dont base an opinion off a totally different car....i have been in a Scion TC with S-techs and and the its totally different than a maxima with s-techs...i had s-techs..i hated them i had KYB AGXs and they still sucked...H&Rs are nice....they offer one of the best aftermarket rides for stiffer springs....again the life of the strut depends on its age...drviing style....
Personally man I recommend Progress srpings, all I hear is good things and they seem to offer a damn good drop and quite a bit of satisfaction from most orgers that have them. I have Maxspeeds with AGX but soon I'm gonna rock Progress with AGX, either than or maybe I'll throw a little extra and try some konis.
In regards to your original question though, I wouldn't do it. Do it right the first time..
