Guy at the dealership looked under my hood, saw a bunch of oil and **** around the valve cover...said i needed a new 'plenum gasket'...most likely all that **** was causing misfire.

nice enough to suggest NOT bringing it to the dealer cause it would be so expensive. i have searched for 'valve cover gasket' and 'plenum valve cover gasket' and got nothing...

help?

 

check the spark plug tunnels....are they filled with oil ? if they are FILLED then that may cause your misfire....bottom line if its leakin change the gasket and check the plugs....but if its a 99 id check the coil packs for the source of your misfire....

 

the plenum should not have oil in it. so for it to leak oil makes no sense.
as mr4dsc (who doesn't even have one anymore ) said it's more likely the spark plug tube seals they're only like $5 ea at the dealer (6 required per car)

BTW, I have oil there too on my I30. I'm just too cheap to fix it.

 

internetautomart your so funny... but seriously next weekend my 5 speed goes in with my exedy stage one and fidanza, plus my wsp exhaust and fed spec conversion. oh geez i forgot my teins, gr2s and fstb.....somethign else....short throw shifter....im still forgetting somethin.....oh yea theres a snail lookin thing in my basement thats stamped stillen....hummm.....


ill tell you what though i miss my IRS 3rd gen alot however i dont miss the clackity clack vtcs....i miss my variable intake with power valve but luckily there a MEVI for the 4th gen oh forgot im prolly buyin that at some point but not yet im so broke from all the other stuff.....

one local guy has a MEVI for sale. If I was serious about keeping the I30, I'd have to seriously consider it.
but I'llstick to my quiet VTCs and top end pull FTW!!!
