I just got back from my first time at the track. Needless to say I didn't do so good (16.5, 16.1, 16.3). After my first run, the AirBag light came on. I have not been able to reset it. I used the "turn off the ignition, turn it on, then press the door light button five times within 7 seconds, turn off, close door and start the car" method and all it did was instead of flashing continuously, it changed to two long and two short flashes. I tried several times and it kept alternating between continuous quick flashes and two long and two short every time I tried to reset it.. Can someone please tell me how I can reset it or what is wrong with it to make it do this?

Thanks..

Update...

I reset the light again the next morning on my way to work and it worked. I assume possibly the engine was just overheated or something?

"Or something" covers a lot of ground. The problem is definitely in the "or something" category.

Does your Maxima have side air bags?

LH side air bag

The 2/2 flash pattern points to a problem with the left-hand side air bag module.
The service procedure is ...
1) Visually check the wiring harness connection.
2) Replace the harness if it has visible damage.
3) Replace the left-hand side air bag module. Before disposal it must be deployed.
4) Replace the diagnosis sensor unit.

My light blinks as well and I have to drop $520 to replace the module on the passenger side, according to the dealership. What a bummer!

Where can I find the harness connection or the sensor unit?
Just a thought, though I do plan on looking deeper into this problem, if the light went away after resetting it and does not come back, does that necessarily mean it was a false alarm to begin with or does it only show the light once?

Thanks very much for the info by the way...

I believe that no warning light means no malfunction, but I cannot find anything in the factory service manual which clearly states that. Please consult your dealer or call 1-800-NISSAN1.

The airbag sensor is an accelerometer. Something probably happened to it while you are doing hard cornering on the track. Remember our cars are all about 10 years old now.

One of my side airbag failed and it cost quite a bit to fix it at the dealer.
