Just Brakes - Just Raped Me!

My rear caliper started leaking Real bad, tripped my brake light on my dash, imagine my surprise when I started up the car and there was NO pressure in my brake system, flying down the drive way with a body kit 4” off the ground and I could not get a replacement down here for a week from NAPA or advanced auto

On of the idiot at Advanced suggested that I go to just brakes and let them rebuild the caliper, so I did, WHAT A RIP OFF

They said they would not even touch the caliper until they replaced the rear brake pads as they were wet ($90 for rear cheep Chinese pad) then they wanted to replace one caliper and rebuild the other rear one (not leaking) and they really hammered it to me on labor
Long story short I am paying $500 to get the car fixed

I will scan the invoice for u all later if you want just thought I would share that with u all

So you knew you were getting ripped off but allowed it to continue anyways?

I dunno what to tell you. My 4th gen's brakes are some of the easiest brakes I've ever worked on. I just did the rear because one of my pistons siezed up. They are super easy to remove/replace. It cost me $83 for a new caliper w/ old core factored in. Just gotta be careful with the rear pistons, they can't be compressed normally (c-clamp or channel locks) require a special square block piston turning too (pistons spin inward/outward).

Most, if not all, BBK for his car, don't include rear calipers. If he were to do a Z conversion for the rear, I would guess it would upset the braking bias. Perhaps Matt B can look this info up for us.

I know I've had the same type of experience more times than I care to admit. You have to realize that many of these people are professionals whos skills are finely honed. Given the right circumstances, it can be nearly impossible to avoid paying more than you feel is fair. I like to think of these times as a learning experience, because I usually am able to figure out where I screwed up - What I should have done to avoid the ripoff. Usually it's "I could have done that myself if I'd have taken the time to learn how." The repair shop rape is good motivation to improve your mechanical skills, Isn't it?

Well the big lesson is not to compress the rear pistosn too much, over compressing them will break a seal and cause a leak,

I just had all 4 rotors replaced (Power Slot rotors warped after less then 3 years), both back calipers, 2 new front pads and labour for $920 tax in.
