heh. i just looked at that exact item wondering if that's what he meant.

you shouldn't need a prop-rod, the hood shocks hold it up. sounds like yours are blown, go get some new ones.

I went through 4 pairs of hood struts before I found a good pair but they are still not reliable they seem to slip every once and a while

You can get them from Advance Auto or Auto Zone for about $25 dollars. The replacements I bought in 00 have already lasted longer than my originals.

I use a small childs baseball bat (or a small child if im in the mood) personally. just the right size to fit in there and to keep the hood up and sturdy. I say by pass the 2by4 and go witha $10 kids aluminum baseball bat.

I'd say spend a few bucks and get some new struts, solves all the problems with the hood fulling on your head when diggin' in the engine campartment. LOL ( happened to me a few times, i got pissed and bought new struts )

your missing the easiest....go to home depot and buy a 1/2" 10 ft length of pvc pipe cut to size and leave it by your tools or in your garage ect... works like a charm and only a few bucks.....

2x4s rule for working on any car. I think everyone needs at least two to use as wheel blocks. It's one of those tools that someone has in their toolbox but never tells you they have it.

mine have worked for 20 years and still going strong in my 2nd gen. And my hood struts do have an OEM prop pole deely, seems nissan didn't find it necessary to put in on any of the newer gens

Mine have blown. Now I use a broom stick. As long as no one walks by and trips over it I'm good. I tricked my mom into holding it up the other day while I was drilling a hole in my firewall for power cables. She basically told me to just go and get some better shocks. Hopefully she will buy them b/c I am cheap.
