low idle question

he im asking this for a friend of mine who just bought a 97 auto max. The car idles perfectly in park or neutral, but when the car is put into drive it shakes a bit and the rpms drop a little. I know it could be any number of things but if anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated, thanks.
