How can I tell if my car already has an aftermarket y-pipe?

Well I bought my car used and after changing my air filter and after destroying the box the filter came in i found out that i had a k&n in there already. My friend who rode in my car says that my car pulls harder than his he has a v6 grand am which is supposed to be comparable to ours i think. What should I be looking for when i get under the car?

Relax newb, he actually helped you by giving you a link to a pic with a stock y and an aftermarket y. Did you actually take the time to click on it and look? Look under your car and see if the pipe matches either one of the pic and there's your answer. One thing noone tolerates here is "spoon-feeding"..........and watch the language!

yeah man we cant get more specific, the link showed a pic of stock and aftermarket, go under the car you cant miss it, its right underneeth the middle of the car, just follow the pipeing that comes out of the muffler all the way to the front of the car. if it looks like the warpspeed one then its aftermarkt, if it looks old and rust like the stock one in the pic then it is indeed stock.

i bought it from that auction of course i saw that picture. He comes in the thread and doesn't post anything useful at first of course i'll respond like that. If you don't have anything useful to say "a y-pipe..." why say anything at all.

as close as they look on paper....in terms of motor....the Grand Ams 3.4 liter has 175 bhp...dotn know torque...and the the maxima has 190 bhp and 205 ft lbs of torque on a smaller lighter engine....the overall car is also significantly ligher than a Grand Am...grand ams are like 3300lbs and 5sp maximas are advertised as 3010 give or take for diff options...i pull them on a daily basis in my area and i am stock when it comes to motor

actually grand ams are around 3000 with 175/205 I breifly looked at them when I was car shopping. They seemed like a cheap alternative but after looking at crash test ratings I quickly looked away. I think my car is pretty heavy though 97+ , gle, and side airbags. But this little tidbit makes me smile

just went outside to go check and yeah she has the stock y-pipe on. The cat looks rusted pretty bad though. I wonder if that'll be a problem for installing the y-pipe.

is 60 bucks considered cheap? the really cheap ones seem to just be test pipes.

if you dont take the time to look for obvious answers and then attack at a member who tries to help you than expect flames.

You have one if you dont see a bunch of aluminum armor between the exhaust manifold and the cat. If you see armour, youre stock.

Y pipe

An aftermarket Y pipe will not have the catalytic convertors, which are used before the car is warmed up.

I will have to agree with fr33way on that one. I was on here 1 day and wanted a Y pipe like I wanted a small asian hooker on a Thursday night before pay day. So before you start attacking very respected members of this forum you should be ready to be flamed beyond anything and realize EVERYONE will attack you and NO ONE will defend you. Now please shut up and listen instead of mouthing off.
