New battery, but still having trouble starting

I just got the maxima back from the shop where a used engine was installed. The car had been sitting for several months, so I installed a new battery just to be safe. However, the car still is having trouble starting. It often takes several seconds of cranking, sometimes more than 1 try to get the car started. Is this an issue with the starter or something else?

Once started the engine seems to run fine. About 1 in 5 times (used to be every time but over the past 2 weeks it's gotten better), it has trouble starting. I plan to take it back to the place where the work was done after 500 miles anyway. I just wanted to know what to have them look at.
