99 cali-spec, front precat replacement. ?

anyone had a faulty front pre-cat converter in their cali-spec 1999 Maxima? not the y-pipe pre-cat, the one connected directly to the header.

if so, where did you buy new one and how much did you pay?

tried autozone, everyone one of these sites supplies either only the main cat, or 'not for sale in California' s.
tried the dealership and got qouted $600, sounds rediculous for pre-cat

i can't rip it out because, unfortunately, I do live in Cali and don't feel like switching my headers everytime I need a smog test.

this is irritating, I plan on putting in a cali-spec y-pipe which eliminates the first pre-cat. before I do this I would like to swith out that first pre-cat for a new one. Cannot find anywhere.

Anybody?

From what i was told there is no way of getting an aftermarket on without getting a CEL. The only other way to change or get rid of that pre-cat is to get headers.

well ive got one from my 99 cali. i converted it to fed and its in my basment. it has 78k miles on it and worked fine with no cels when i removed it only problem with it is the bolts. 2 will have to be drilled out. quite easy since its off the car. up to you. its kinda heavy so ill have to weight it for shipping.

600 bucks from nissan !! holy crap. stupid stealership. see they know you cant get it anywhere else so they jack up the price like every other dealer only item.....

OK, take it off and beat the shat out of the inside!!!!!! Use your little brain power on this one damn. No you will not get a light. You will get alittle better response on the throttle. Then get a Ypipe and a test pipe. Yes I have a "cali spec" or used to anyway and that is what I did

ill use my little brain power if you use the little you have to squint your eyes and read up a couple of posts. i do not feel like switching out my headers everytime I need a smog test here in California.
A test pipe? hey, when you read the title of this thread did you see anything that said, "need to pollute as much as I can, any advice on how I can dump pure carbon monoxide into the environment is appreciated"
You said it best yourself,

alittle better.
in fact, this thread was started to find out how I could replace that extra front pre-cat, not remove it. I appreciate everyone's advice on swapping to fed but am too phuckin lazy to swap out headers for smog test, and for
