Hi, I got new drilled/slotted rotors and PBR Utlimates on my car like three weeks ago and eveything was fine until I realized the mechanic messed up the E-brake, so I went back to him and he took care of that, but now a new problem devolped in the rear passenger side where most of the time when I apply the brakes slightly, a metal on metal sound occurs. (a dragging sound)

It only occurs when I tap the brakes slightly...I also can feel it in the brake pedal. I took it back to them 4 times and nothing appears to be wrong, but they can't seem to find out what's making the noise.

I took it to another shop and he said just wait until the pads wear down and get new ones.

dont know the exact problem but here a try
did they check the retaining clip for the pads (could be rubbing against the rotor) ?
if everything ok then jack up the car, spin the tire with a friend pulling the ebrake and pin point the noise
or maybe even a lack of antisquel on the backside of the pad? (i never use it and i dont have the noise but just trying to help

Make sure the shims are firmly attached to the brake pads.

problem is solved. my mechanic said when my cuz put on the rear brakes he completely twisted something in the opposite direction (forgot the parts name).

problem is back after greasing everything in the rear... oh and its a groaning sound, not grinding

now, when the mechanic raised the car, we checked both rear tires and it seems that the left side wheel is a lil tighter than the other. Should I replace the parking brake cable? do you think that's the problem

If it's a moaning sound, could it be your wheel bearings are bad, and rule out the brakes all together?

no its a moaning and grinding sound. Its def. coming from the brakes. I forgot to add that today after playing around with the e-brake...engaging and then driving a small distance and then reverse.....the problem seems to be gone for now

Same problem, I 've been trying to solve this groan for over a year. It doesn't make noise everyday, but often enough. You name it, I've replaced it, tried everything, same noise. Now I just live with it.

I have a 99 Maxima and I have the exact same problem nart and it amazes me that my mechanic doesn't even know what the hell it is. well I think I narrowed it down. I took of the wheel and inspected the braking system my self and observed that on the side that the moaning is coming from (or so I think) the caliper piston is not sitting flush behind the brake pad. It's actually resting on top of a raised surface or what appears to be one of three "bump" that's built into the design of the shim. I think this could be the problem as it's applying additional pressure to the pad causing uneven pressure as you brake.
