Rear Deck Rattle Fix

Rear Deck Rattle Fix
I had the car apart this weekend for an event and I spent 30-45 minutes putting it all back together. My car is pretty quiet but I would get an occasional rattle from my rear deck area on uneven surfaces.
If you have never had the top section of your rear seat out basically the rear deck is carpeted on the upper side and plane cardboard (or the like) on the bottom side. This pretty much rests on the wires that run across the rear deck. I simply folded two red shop towels in half and put one on each side between the wires and cardboard and hoped for the best.
It cured my rattles and the car has a more "German" or "Vault-like" feel to it, which is really odd, I had gotten quite used to it. Agian, my car was pretty quiet to start with so the difference may not be night and day but if you are eliminating rattles one by one don't forget this area!

Fold down your (for lack of better term) ski-pass, there are two 10MM bolts holding the seat to the bracket. There is also one 10MM bolt on the lower outside of each side. Once those are loose you should be able to tilt the bottom towards you and lift up, it will slide off the "hooks" that it rests on.
On reinstallation seat the back part of the seat on the "hooks" first. You can reach your hand through the ski-pass and help guide the middle onto the hook. Then just hook both sides and bolt everything back up.
Don't forget to feed your seatbelts through, it's a bish when you discover they arn't there after you tighten all the bolts.

I have noticed that creaking sound, too, sometimes. It normally takes a lot of bass to get it to creak though. By biggest problem is the stupid GXE rear deck brake light. I could get an SE deck to replace the GXE deck, but that would be too easy, so I opted to completely sound deaden the deck light. It didn't work much. It still vibrates and bashes around like crazy.

My dads 96 has multiple dash rattles, especially around where the a pillars meet the dash. I did my best to fix them. But damn they are so annoying. Im so glad Nissan addressed the issues and fixed them in the later years.
