A/C and Auto Climate experts step in

I remember reading on here that the A/C in the maxima is not on/off type but rather cools as needed. So in the case of auto climate, when I set the temp higher, so that the AC is not as cold, does that make the AC work less hard, or is it just heating the cooled air? If it's working less hard, does that save gas/wear on the system?

no, wouldnt be heating cold air...because its not cold outside. i guess that its not working as hard, but that diffence would probably be minimal...just like the theory that AC wastes gas...it does, but its so little gas you should hardly notice anything.

ummm, A/C kills my gas...as far as i'm concerned, correct me if i'm wrong. I used it rarelly because of this. On the highway though, use it. because the closed windows create less drag, so in the end u save gas, but in the city, no way man.

What I meant is if the AC is making the air cold, but since the temp is set higher, it cools the air and then heats it again to make it the desired temperature. The alternative is just not cooling the air as much.

Do you have auto climate?

well, in my car there is no AC...you just set the temp. therefore there is no AC cooling the heat. i still dont think im understanding completely lol.

its a proven fact that windows down wastes more gas than your AC (due to the drag on the back window).

as far as I know it is a variable compressor meaning it will not compress the gas as much which doesn't make it as cold. heating cold air doesn't make much sense anyways unless your useing the heater in the winter .
