So I have the B&M short shifter........

Like the title says I have a B&M short shifter. Very notchy in my opinion. I like slamming into gear, but not all the time. Is there a way to make the shifting smoother? All I want is a nice and easy "throw." thanks

Try switching to Redline MT-90 Fluid.

You didnt say how long you have had the sts installed...so Im assuming its recent? I installed one on my old 200sx se-r and noticed it was very notchy and hard to move at first ....like churning pizza dough....but after a few weeks it got lighter and smoother almost as smooth as oem. The redline mtl might help too.

A synthetic fluid will help, but it will never be completely smooth.
Thats the price you have to pay for going with a STS and having a Maxima 5 speed.

maximilia,
Why do you "like slamming into gear"? Id be carefull with that type of driving, our trannies dont have the best synchros.

i have the B&M shifter and yes its "notchier" than stock... but thats a compromise you have to make if you want shorter throws.

i wudnt advise slamming your car into gear.

Breaking it in will help. After a few 1000 miles mine started to smooth out.

I don't do this all the time, very rarely. Only when wrapping out the gears a bit.

the STS was installed when the previous owner had it. I don't remember him telling me how long he had it nor did I ask, but it couldn't be more than 6 months or so. I've already put almost 1000 miles on the car. I bought it about 2 weeks ago. I guess I'll just live with it, I am getting used to it.

If you want a soft throw, you can't have a short throw(distance between gears, not length of shifter). If you just want the shifter to be short but you want to be able shifter softly install your stock shifter and cut it shorter!
