depends...do you have traction control? if yes you need the one with limited slip...if not get the one without it

go to some auto store like autozone and check prices there too, not just the internet.

Internet= cvshaft+shipping and handling.
local store= cvshaft+tax.

also replacing it shouldn't be too hard, if you have some car knowledge or atleast have a chilton or hayes manual.

Autozone stuff is not worth it. I had a ton of problems with Autozone axles.

www.raxles.com these guys will take care of you. Some guys may have not had problems with the local auto stores, but from my experience I won't cheap out because as the saying goes "You get what you pay for".

4th Gens do not have VLSD so you want a non-limited. Unless you replaced your transmission with a '01 AE, I30, or Canadian Maxima tranny w/VLSD.

Raxles.com gives you top quality axles, they use Amsoil lubricants, and give you a pair of gloves to do the install. After installing the next axle put your old axle in the box, and slap on the RETURN shipping label (that they provide you) and ship the core back to them.

Installing your axles is not hard at all (at least with a Raxle). I am not going to get into the problems the Autozone rebuilt ones gave me. Pick yourself up a Haynes manual that can guide you through the process, oh and bring your common sense as well.

Get one from autozone. The driver side doesn't fit correctly, the passenger sides input shaft is worn which causes a horrendous vibration, but ya just keep replacing the axles.

Maybe I had bad luck due to my drop.

I have used autozone, napa, whatever local parts store's axles on all 3 of my maximas and never had a problem with one. I'll keep using them until I do.

As far as limited slip or not, DON'T listen to what the guy above said about traction control, that's not true.

It is HIGHLY unlikely that you have a limited slip transmission in your car, they were only offered in maximas in canada and in infiniti i30s, so unless your car came from canada or someone swapped a different transmission in it, you don't have a limited slip. If you take the axle out first you'll be able to tell: one set of splines = open diff, two sets of splines = limited slip.

The actual R&R of the axle is not bad at all, few bolts. Shouldn't take you more than half an hour if you have air tools, an hour without (though maybe a little longer because it's your first time.)

Load up with PB blaster and make sure you have the tools you will need. PB Blaster will halp with your strut bolts or caliper. You will have to take off that big nut holding the hub to the axle but it shouldn't be torqued too badly to begin with. Make sure you have the correct socket for that big nut before you take the wheel off. You'll also need a long pry bar or something solid to wedge between the lugs when you remove the hub nut and a short pry bar to pop the axle out of the transmission. Have something available to catch transmission fluid from the hole you take the axle from and a way to put it back in your transmission (turkey baster). I lost a little during my axle replacement on my 5 spd maxima. You just want to catch it and save yourself some hassle. I used an axle from Advance and it seemed OK. The only problems I hade were: 1) not having all the tools I'd need and then having to run to the store for them; and 2) not really understanding how the axle connects to the transmission. There is a little clip on the end of the axle which locks into the transmission when you push it in. There is a bit of an art to knowing when its locked and sealed. It clicks in. I was off on my first shot and leaked a little tranny fluid until I figured out what I had done. I eventually popped it in correctly. Popping the old one out was easy with the right pry bar or large screwdriver combo. You won't have any problems.
