My 96 SE manual clutch pedal is dead and can’t shift…HELP!

OK…I’ve 1996 Maxima SE with only 90K on it and very well taken cared.
Today my clutch pedal has no tension when I pressed it even I depressed all the way down.
I could start the car but obviously I could not shift the car… about 3 weeks ago I’ve noticed that my clutch pedal has no positive tension until I pressed it half way but it was on and off thing.
I thought my clutch spring is worn or something got stuck but after I drove my car to home and when I try to start the car after 5 hrs and pressed the clutch… it had no tension whatsoever.
It feels like the clutch pedal is hanged by just piece of spring… no more hard positive tension and moreover I could not shift… any thought????
Damn…..

Check the brake fluid in the slave cylinder (by your brake master cylinder). Probably a leak in the slave cyliner hose. There's a write-up on how to replace the hose and bleed the slave cylinder but I don't have search ability so you'll have to find it yourself.

thanks for your input... brake oil level is good and I could not find any leak on the car or driveway.
BTW, why brake oil Interferes with clutch pedal? just wondering...
thanks

maybe your master or slave cylinder went bad.
have someone pressing your clutch pedal and you take a look on slave cylinder (its bolted to tranny) and see if that little piston is moving

No...I replaced the clutch about 20k ago at the dealer and it's pretty new.
I think mostly likely clutch cylinder problem.
Where's the slave cylinder? anyone has pix???

thank you guys... I looked at the slave cylinder but could not see the trace of oil.
I also traced the line but no leak... I think you guys are right but I could not see any trace of oil.
BTW, how much does it cost to replace the cylinder and bleed fluid at the shop?

If the clutch it fairly new, most likely your slave cyl.

I know people that wear there clutch out pretty fast... I dont know how you drive... but have a mechanic look at it man... and tell him to prove to you what the problem is instead of him just telling you what it is.

If the pedal goes down without any tension it's probably a hydraulics problem like the master cylinder.

It's possible that the problem is clutch, but it's sorta uncommon.

A good tranny shop can diagnose this properly in a matter of minutes. If you really want, remove the intake snorkel (the plastic b/t the battery and engine) and have someone watch the slave cylinder while you work the clutch. If the slave pushes the release fork, it's a clutch problem or something else in there. If the slave doesn't move, it's a hydraulic problem.

Well, I towed the maxima to a local Nissan specialty shop and they could not find any leak or problem with the clutch pedal that has no pressure.
They suggested air might be in the line and bleed the fluid out and replaced with new fluid. The car worked about a few hrs and now completely dead again.
I need to tow to that damn shop again to fix but does anyone know how to reset something so my clutch pedal could pop up again? I need to make this car work again temporally so I could save the towing… the shop did something and the pedal popped out right again… any thoughts? damn

I was able to pop out the dead clutch pedal by pumping the pedal about 100 freaking times! after about 100 times of hard action, the clutch pedal finally popped out half way and I was able to drive the max to the shop.
They said since there's no external leak it might be a internal leak problem and will try to replace the master cylinder... hope it works this time....
