How much is one quarter for the fuel tank guage?

The only part in the gas gauge "system" is the low fuel light that goes on when you have 1.5 or 1.0 (can't remember which) gallons left. My wife used that to tell her when to put gas in the car. Drove me crazy. Now I drive the '97 and she has the '05.

You cant ever get an accurate reading on the gas gauge. Too many things factor in for me to tell you how many gallons are left at 1/4. Everyone drives different and burns gas at a different rate. All I know is when my gauge is below E and the light is going on and off I never ever fill up more then 16.5 gallons. Its like after E and after the light goes on and off you still got 2-3 gallons left, at least thats the case in my car. But I rather not run out of gas, thats one thing I have not and hope never to do. If I had to guess I would say you have about 5-6 gallons left at 1/4

i just filled up when the needle was right on the half mark and put in 8.5 gallons...normally i fill up right when it hits the E mark (which is still before the low light) but i wanted to check my highway mpg (33 btw)

The way to find your MPG is this:
1) totally fill tank
2) reset trip meter
3) drive around a bunch
4) totally fill tank again
5) look at gas meter, record how many gallons used
6) look at trip meter, record miles driven
7) go go simple math
8) buy a taco
9) enjoy
The last two are optional, but highly recommended. Trying to find your MPG by going the maximum miles on your tank is just a way to get stranded on the road, and having done that, I will tell you that it sucks.

kind of on/off topic, but I'm currently having problems with my odometer and trip odometer, and I am now unable to calculate my MPG. Sometimes they go in and out together, other times they are totally dead. Last time i filled up at the gas station they started, but then when i drove 10 miles home, they stopped working completely. Any suggestions/help on what needs to be done to fix the problem. thanks in advance
