fuel filter replacement question

im gonna replace my fuel filter tomorrow and it seems my other thread (starting problems) is dead so im making a new one cuz i need this answered by tomorrow hopefully. I read that you can stick a 300zx filter into a max since the hoses are the same and its more efficient since its twice as big.
So im wondering will this just fit right in or do modifications have to be done to the brackets holding it in. Also what year 300zx filter would do the trick.
Thanks

since it is slightly larger, you just have to push a little harder to get it to go in the bracket. but it will fit, no "mods" necessary.

The sticky in the fluids forum will probably say what year. If you have abs it will be nearly impossible to work in there to get the zx filter in. just to tell you.

I've put the 300zx fuel filter in both a non abs maxima and a maxima with abs. Every keeps saying how hard it is with abs, but it isn't. You just work around the extra parts and push the filter in, real easy thing to do.

I did mine with a 90-95 twin turbo 300zx fuel filter. Does that make my car any faster in the 1/4 mile?

Just kidding. It's not that the filter will be more efficient, but due to the larger size of the filter is should last longer. I think the milage is 30000 for the stock unit and 45,000 for the 300zx. Something like that anyway. It should be in the stickies. And working around the extra abs stuff is a pain in the ****, but that was nothing compared to getting the stock unit disconnected from the fuel hoses. arrrrghhhh!!!!

Its 15,000 for maximas filter and 30,000 for 300zxs, which is better so you dont have to change it out as much since its a PITA.

I was cheap n didnt want to buy the ngk ones. check that also. (do'nt owrry, i finally changed it because the starter was taking a beating)

i just feel special that i have something from another cool car. i have a "TWIN TURBO" edition 300ZX fuel filter, YAH!

yeh anyways, when i tried to install mine, i couldn't remove the bloody hose, even after releasing all the pressure from the line so i just cut it hehe.
it did pop out of the bracket sometimes as well so i just used a ziptie

It's actually really easy...2 hose clamps and a pair of vice grips away. If you can't get it off, cut the hose a bit.

i just replaced my fuel filter with a 300zx one, taking it off was a little difficult but once you get the top hose off with a pliers you can then twist it out of the bottom one. getting the new filter back in tho was easy, im just hoping the brackets will do a good job holding the 300zx filter in.

hopefully this will help my car start better, i dont know how to tell if the old was was past due or not.
