Judging by this post you dont know all there is to know about Maximas.
Don't let the Newbie status fool you. I've had a 4th Gen Maxima since 99, bought it new. and it was an ES.

I have the same issue with my car, tried to reset using the stickies but it did not work. Just got the dealer's manual in a CD from a friend, it has a step to trouble shoot it, I will try to see if it works. But if anyone know how to fixed i will appreciate it.

This will be good to know. I'm planning on keeping the car forever, so if mine goes off like this I can fix it too. Please come back with your troubleshooting results.

as mentioned above, if your car has side airbags, its probably the wiring under the front seats. you might need to wiggle around those harnesses.

here is the procedure to reset the airbag light:

1. open the driver's door and get in. leave the door open.
2. turn the key to the ON position (not ACC, not start engine, just ON).
3. push the door pin switch (its covered in a rubber thing near the door sill that controls the interior dome light) at least 7 times within 10 seconds of performing step 2.
4. turn key to the OFF position.
5. close your door.
6. turn on the car.

this should reset the light. it has worked for me.

I went through that ritual for nearly 24 mos, very annoying, yet at the same time feeling confident I didn't want to pay the dealer $700 for nothing. About 10 mos. ago, I actually unplugged the side airbag on the driver side, and replugged it. Long story but my entire seatback fell off because the dealer replaced the seat cover under warranty. Ever since then, it never came back. Why I knew it was my driver's side (pass side module was replaced under warranty) was that it would begin blinking as soon as the seat position were changed. I even let a couple short people drive my car and after putting the seat back to where I need it, no blinking/flashing lamp.

To verify the system is working, the airbag lamp should light every time the ignition is turned on, then it goes out. If that's not happening, there's a serious issue.

You may just need to reset the light. Just turn the key to the on postion then push you drivers door dome light switch five times as fast as you can then start your car. It may take a few times to get it to reset.
