A member of another forum (Bobistheoilguy) posted a short video of his engine starting up. His '99 Maxima has an odd knocking/clanking on cold starts that last about 30 seconds. He says it then settles down. He currently has 86,000 miles on the car, and is 1500 miles in to his oil change with German Castrol. He said after his oil change, the car was very smooth for about a month before it started making the noise. He's using an OEM filter, but I don't know which one (either the 15208-9E000 or 6****). He's wondering if the noise could be the Timing Chain tensioner. Any ideas?

the timing belt tensioner's noise would be a loud screeching noise from the right side of the engine where the belts are. i had something similiar to that but all the mechanic did was tighten it. i would suggest him taking it to different body shops to get a professional opinion if you dont get more information. i would try, if you know what your doing, to adjust the timing belt. thats my safest suggestion. gl
