FPR or FUEL PUMP?
i have had crazy problems with misfires etc. for the past month.
the other day, the problem switched from a misfire, to a reallllly hard start where i have to give it a LOT of gas. i ahve had problems starting for like 2 years....have to turn the key and prime the pump a few times and it still wouldnt start easily. i also used to be able to hear a groan coming from somewhere when i would turn the key....now nothing. the car now shudders all over the place at idle. i was out with a girl last night and she was like 'yeah so your car is shaking liek crazy' i was like yeah i think its the fuel pump.....and i have that gay surging acceleration. although at WOT after 3000 it seems normal.
how do i know whether its the pump or the fuel pressure regulator?

bump.
i guess i ask my boy who has a 97 I30 if i would borrow his fuel pump to see if thats the prob.
also. VERY VERY odd.
lately, when i rev up the engine...on the way back down...i hear one or two loud thuds. imagine hitting an empty tin can with a stick. like something is hitting something else...or there is some electrical spark or something. I will take a vid later and try to post it.
any ideas?

well after two effing hours i couldnt get the goddam hoses off my friends fuel pump. jesus h christ how the hell are you supposed to get those things off? i tried every which goddam way and they didnt even budge.
so anyway, i got home, left the car running, took the back seat off and listened. almost silent. so i suppose that means its not the pump.
i did get a code for an O2 sensor last week, but i cleared it and it hasnt come back. if it was bad, wouldnt i be getting a code?
this is so goddam frustrating. i dont even know what to do next.

I have that too.. O2 sensor changed, Fuel pump working...
some sya it's a grounding issue or the ignition switch..
I have yet to install both... I'll do the ignition switch first
and if that doesn't solve the issue.. then the grounding,
and if THAT doesn't solve the issue, then I have no clue...

can someone give me a list of things to check since i DO NOT have the equipment to check pressure?
again...listened to the pump while the car was running...almost totally silent.
could it be the pressure regulator?
and as for getting the pressure checked...does that take a long time or could i just bring it somewhere and they could do it quickly.
also...i dont have the NGK spark plugs. the ones i got were like 2.50 each at pep boys.
like i said before...when i rev it up high, on the way back down at about 3000 i hear this smack. i havent been able to pinpoint it. i looked in the spark plug shaft in cylinders 2,4,6...and honestly i couldnt tell the difference. how can one tell whether spark plugs are working or not...

Sounds like maybe you should check the cat. put your hand byu the muffler and see what kinda pressure you got. a clogged cat my throw 02 codes and would cause loss of power backfire and rough idle. give it a shot.

Spend 15$ for a haynes manual to check for FP.
Or 20$ on here to search.. or both...

i do have an O2 code. 0503.
the exhaust smells liek burning rubber sorta. very rough, put-put sorta thing.
i dont have the 0702 code for a bad cat. could an oxygen sensor be the cause of this?
i think i read somewhere that the front heated oxygen sensors turn off after 3000rpms.
is it just a coincidence that my car runs a lot better after 3k?
