Whats the biggest size resonator the Maxima can take?

I had no idea that the Apexi WS universal muffler is a straight through design. With a body length of 15 inches its 5 inches shorter than the stock muffler and I've already had some experience with a Vibrant straight through muffler to know that I didn't like the noise level. I sold the Vibrant to Dayglo and because his Max still has the stock Y and B pipes it sounds very nice.

I bought the WS before I found Subzero's old comment that with his aftermarket Y and B pipes with resonator that it was too loud and so he installed a stock muffler instead.

I'm currently selling it but if I could salvage the situation would a larger resonator help bring the noise level down to stock level? I already have a Magnaflow resonator down there and I'm guessing that its about 14 inches long.

I have the same problem as you. My flowmaster is not too loud though. The interior noise is a little too much though. I have a magnaflow resonator and it is 14" long. I recently bought a thrush 22" resonator. I'm going to see if the exhaust shop could add this resonator while still keeping the magnaflow one in. I have an appt. for saturday. I'll post results next week of the sound difference.

Blackcat,

I have a 3" full from the headers back. Between the test pipe and the first bend, I fit in an 18" perforated core resonator, and it fit perfectly. Yes you can fit larger, but I was happy with an 18". With your blower, I would recommend a 3" exhaust

Well, I got the resonator installed on saturday. Everthing fit just fine. There was a very slight sound difference; not as much as I hoped for. It still drones a bit at around 2300 rpm, but it's not as loud as before. Hope this helps.

The Budget pipe is 2.5" diameter but I'm not planning to upgrade to 3". I'm going to install the Apexi muffler and drive it around to see what its like. If its nasty then I'll throw in a longer resonator.

Hey BlackCat, have you considered the Dynomax Superturbo muffler? I hear it flows well & has a nice deep sound. I currently have a Budget y & magnaflow cat everything else is stock (Nissan catbacks last forever )I plan on heading to Budget for a b-pipe but I may need a muffler before that. Speedy muffler listed them for <$70 I think. The knock is that they may rust out sooner than SS as they are aluminized. If I do get one, I'll just paint it black & put on a nice tip.

Yes I did. I got a quote for $90Cdn but I wanted some bling back there instead of aluminized steel and picked up the Apexi universal WS muffler in the group deal instead.
