Ignition coils or something else?

A couple of days I got a Front heated Oxygen Sensor code but I cleared it and never came back. The next day, I noticed that everytime I let go the accelerator, the rpm would drop to 900-1k. Everytime I brake, I get it to 500 rpm. After an hour later that day, I got a misfire on cylinder 2. I cleared that and now it seems fine, but still having the rpm problem. Everytime I hit the accelerator, it will go up to 2000-2100 rpm and then switch gears, but never passed 2100 rpm until I hit like 55 mph. I am not sure whether I should change the coils or whether it has something else to do with the above problem. Currently I am waiting to see whether that misfire comes up again or not.

Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor or Throttle Position Sensor(PTS).

Clean/test MAF and check PTS first.

Easy answer... O2 sensor...then coils. After that, I would replace the plugs. Especially if you are running with anything other than Denso or NGK.

Am I suppose to wait for the Oxygen sensor code to come back on first?

Not necessarily, with the 99 Maxima, you know it's going to fail. The coils are a common problem, so you know they are going to fail as well. If you want to play it safe...then wait for the codes to show up again.

doesnt sound anythign like a coil problem...sounds like a TPS issue...coils would give u bad misfires and really rough idle

I am feeling power loss today while driving. Still waiting for that code to come up. It will not go above 3000 rpm while driving, but while on neutral, it can reach higher.

Sounds like bad coil pack/plug/fuel injector. If it is bad enough, it will trip ECL eventually.

Sounds like MAF problem. Check sticky threads to make some quick inspection.

If you rollin in a 99 Maxima, you might as well invest in a scanner. I wouldn't rule out the TPS, but I would start with the ignition system first. Especially if you are able throttle above 3K in idle.

I do have the scanner, but no codes show up yet after I cleared them 2 days ago. I'll check the tps tonight and see what I come up with.

dude the same **** is happening to me but mine maxima is auto. It's like the car has a mind of its own, look i changed the coils, did absolutly nothing big waste of money, i changed a lot of stuff and it still runs like **** when it wants to. I mechanic came to my house and cleaned my EGR and it seems to be running fine now, you should try that or maybe its your MAF

Okay, checked the TPS and it's not giving a 5V reading when the key is turn to the ON position, but I am getting the 500 ohm to 4000 ohm resistance. The car is reacting good while on neutral with the accelerator pedal pushed down. Do you think I should still change the TPS? I will check the MAF next week on labor day weekend.

You need to check to see if the TPS response is linear (smooth) all the way up from the low to high ohm readings. If it jumps all over the place as you move the throttle, that's a good sign its no good - the computer doesn't know what to do with the readings, so it just takes the reading it's getting and the car runs like crap.

But I am not getting the 5V from the "ON" position initially. Does it mean the supply voltage is bad or an open? I rechecked the TPS and it seems linear.
