To replace the antenna there is the crome piece at the base of the antenna rod (out side, rear passenger quater panel). It has two grooves in it on opposite sides. Use a pair of needle nose pliers and turn counter clockwise. It will unscrew and come out. Next turn on your radio so that the antenna comes up. If it is not in to bad of condition you should be able to pull the rod and guide cable come out as it extends. Mine personally had so much corrosion in the motor and cable assembly that I replaced both motor and antenna rod together since it would not pull out. If yours does come out then all you need to do is start the new guide cable and rod into the slot and turn off your stereo to begin to retract the new unit. If it goes well then it will take the new unit down and all you have to do is reinstall the trim nut to hold everything in. Is not usually pretty hard unless your car is mine with corrosion down in the whole assembly. Damn the east coast!

I am on the east coast too. I wipe the mast with vaseline a few times a year and it seems to really help.

more antenna issues

I jut removed my 96 power antenna. There is only three wires so how hard can it be?????
The new unit does not work. The original wiring is a red wire (power I presume) a black wire (ground I presume) and a black wire with red stripe(signal from radio?). The new unit has a red wire, with fuse, a black wire and a blue wire. The minimal istructions indicate that the new unit wires are red for power, blue for radio "on" and black for ground. I reinstalled the old motor and it does drive properly. Any ideas? I guess it could be a defective unit from brand new but how likley is that?

Hey, this worked for me.. Either be quick on your feet, or have a buddy in the drivers seat, to click the key back and forth making the antenna go up and down, and as it comes up, spray some WD-40 on the mast, or use some sort of lube. Then as it is going down, take your palm and push the mast down once it has stopped moving but you can still hear the motor trying to pull down.
You might have to do this a few times, and you definitely will have to GO EASY! Good Luck!!

I just replaced mine. It's definetly a good idea to have some one to press the button for you. And like mentioned above, spraying WD-40 helps.

in my 96, the original radio antenna broke in half and the antenna wouldn't go up /down anymore... the motor is still good as I can hear it spinning..
i purchased a replacement antenna, got the original out but was unable to get the 1/2 antenna left out of the unit..

I then purchased a used antenna/motor and put that in instead.. so good to have a working antenna again..

then for curiosity purposes, I opened up the old unt ( motor assembly) and saw the reason why the antenna wasn't going up or down is because the threaded plastic part of the antenna, snapped, therefore, the "gear" wasn't hooking the plsatic threaded part of the antenna...

if your antenna has no corrosion, I suggest replacement rod( antenna) which is approx $10.. if your antenna has corrosion and you are unable to get the mast/antenna out, I suggest finding a used but functionnal OEM antenna+motor unit.
